Mill Valley
general contractor.
Mill Valley is one of Marin's hardest places to build well. Hillsides, narrow lots, ridge ordinances, design review, and an aging housing stock that hides surprises behind every wall. We've built here for two decades, and we'd rather work in Mill Valley than almost anywhere else.
Why Mill Valley is its own thing.
The classic Mill Valley home is wood-framed on a hillside, often built in the 1920s through 1970s, with tongue-and-groove redwood, single-pane windows, and structural connections that pre-date modern seismic code. Layered on top of that is one of Marin's most rigorous design review processes and a residential ordinance that protects ridgelines, viewsheds, and mature oak trees.
Building well here means understanding the original construction, working with current code without losing the home's character, navigating the city's planning department, and respecting the trees and topography that make the town what it is. That's a different skill set than building on a flat lot in a tract subdivision.
